When to go
There's no single "best time for the US" — it's the size of a continent. Match the season to the region: shoulder seasons for the Southwest/deserts, summer for the coasts and mountains, and treat any city guide's own timing note as the real answer.

Before you go
Cards (including tap-to-pay) are standard everywhere; carry some cash for small vendors or tipping. Tipping is expected and non-optional in practice: 18–20% at sit-down restaurants, $1–2/drink at bars.
No required vaccinations. Emergency number: 911. Travel insurance is genuinely important here — US healthcare costs for visitors without coverage can be severe.
eSIMs and prepaid SIMs (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon) are easy to set up on arrival; coverage is excellent in cities, patchier in rural/mountain areas.
Regional and seasonal swings are extreme — check the specific city/season, not just "the US."
Getting around
Workable only in the Northeast Corridor (Boston–NYC–DC via Amtrak); elsewhere, domestic flights or driving are the norm, not trains.
Often necessary outside dense city cores — distances between attractions are typically larger than in Europe. Interstate driving is easy and well-signed.
Culture & etiquette
Small talk with strangers (baristas, cashiers) is normal and expected, not intrusive. Personal space expectations are larger than in much of Europe or Asia.
